This Expedition has an unsual serial number.  It was a "stock" bicycle offered at Point Reyes Bikes.  It was likely made during the three digit period.

From the owner:

As a kid, my old Schwinn Varsity served me well on Mt. Tam fire roads. Many years later, perhaps in the mid eighties, while living in Fairfax, I bought a Ritchey from some shop I think that was run by Charles Kelly and Gary Fisher.

Often, rides took the me to Pt. Reyes Station. The bike store was usually closed by the time I arrived, but I would look longingly at the beautiful machines in the window. One of these bikes was a Potts Custom Racer. This reminded me that I once knew Steve in jr. high and I decided it would be cool to sell the Ritchey and get one of Steve's bikes. I should have gone directly to Steve, but the guys at Pt. Reyes Bikes were great.

Well, when Pt. Reyes Bikes was building my Potts, I would also admire the Cunnigham bikes they had on hand. Having just spent about $4,500 on the Potts, I couldn't justify spending a similar amount on a Cunnigham, no matter how beautiful they were. Then one day I noticed the Expedition. I had never seen a bike like this before and knew nothing about Cyclocross or hybrid bikes. The tough frame but narrower tires intrigued me. Many of my regular rides were on a combination of pavement and fire roads. The price seemed like a bargain - $2,900!
