Todd DeAngelis's road racing frame from the mid-80s. National team coach Eddie Borysewicz was disgusted by the bicycle, noting that welded aluminum would never be viable for elite level road racing. Racers wondered if Todd's father was a plumber who had built the bike. No one seemed to notice that the bike was stronger than the others in the peloton and weighed nearly 5 pounds less! The sloping top tubes (a la modern compact frames) were also considered a bad idea.
