Page 3 of 3 Today the Toggle Cam and Lever Link versions are among the most highly evolved rim brakes with incredible power, accuracy and ease of adjustment. Togglecam on a Type II fork The linear spring that Charlie designed and first used in the Roller Cam brake because of its superior centering characteristics, feel and adjustability was later adopted by Shimano and other manufacturers, becoming the standard spring for V-brakes. Charlie invented and refined the dual compound brake pad, which is used to “break-in” new rims and eliminate brake squeal. The compound at the leading edge of the pad contains a special abrasive material that cleans and removes high spots from the rim and, because it has a slightly higher wear rate, it produces a toe-in condition that improves braking and reduces pad squeal.
